LUCY

Lucy was adopted from the shelter when she was 5 months old. A sweet, rambunctious puppy, she went home with the person who pledged to love her for her whole life. A little more than 3 years later, Lucy was returned to the shelter. She’d had a really rough life where her people had “fed her when they could.” She was skinny… really skinny. She weighed in at 40 pounds when she should have been 65. Still, this amazing girl had a great attitude and hung out at the shelter cheerfully greeting people and finally getting the food she needed. The people at the shelter were kind and made sure the food wasn’t too hard, so her tummy could more easily digest the food she wasn’t used to having. Time passed and the shelters are full. Lucy is a black dog… a lab mix, they called her. She was overlooked time and again and finally her last day arrived. She had only hours before she was scheduled to be euthanized. The networkers were trying really hard to get her noticed but nobody stepped forward. Finally, Dreya’s Place tagged her and drove the shelter to pick her up. She rode happily in the car, though she was nervous. She met the foster’s resident dogs and made friends quickly. She was less nervous with friends around and bounded happily around chasing the kitties. Lucy has grown over the past month. She’s gotten healthy weight on her, she meets people and doggie friends cheerfully at the dog park and runs like the wind! She will happily sit for all the treats you’re willing to give and when it’s time to go, she’s eager to come when she’s called. When she gets loved on and petted, she puts her paw on your leg to return the sweet favor, and she’s not stingy with kisses. When she’s very happy - which is often these days - she will put her paws on your shoulders to give you a hug. She’s fairly sure she loves hugs!

Lucy does like to chase the kitties though, and while she isn’t aggressive or ugly with them, she doesn’t know how to play nicely with them and her foster mom keeps a close eye on her while she’s romping! When it’s time to go back in her crate, her foster mom calls her and she happily goes in to eat her meal. Her attitude is amazing considering all she’s been through. She doesn’t resource guard, she’s happy, very energetic, and eager to please her person. She will have her 4th birthday in April and she’s asking for a person to love her - forever this time.
